2015 Long Beach Lifeguard Tryouts

The Long Beach Lifeguard Tryouts will be held Sunday March 1, 2015 at 8:00 AM at Long Beach Lifeguard Headquarters, 2100 E Ocean Blvd Long Beach, CA 90803.

Qualifications: No prior training or experience is required 1. 17 years of age as of July 1, 2015 2. Proof of age required at time of conditional employment offer (valid Driver’s License or Birth Certificate).
Any applicant under 18 years of age must possess a valid work permit from his or her high school, high school diploma or G.E.D. prior to the start of the training program.
Exam Schedule: 8:00 AM – Briefing and Sign-up 9:00 AM – Ocean Swim, 1000-yards 9:30 AM – Run-Swim-Run 12:00 PM – Announcement of candidate list for pre-employment Scored oral interviews. 12:30 PM – Oral interviews begin 2:30 PM – Pre-employment briefing
The 8-day, 80-hour Training Program is to be determined. Training will be Saturdays and Sundays: May 9/10, 16/17, 23/24, 33/31. Training will include: lifeguard tactics, lifeguard operations, First Aid, D.O.T. First Responder, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, mechanical resuscitators, rescue buoys, rescue boards and timed events. Day 8 will include comprehensive written, practical testing and oral interviews. Trainees must successfully complete the Train Program to continue employment and be assigned a schedule for the 2015 season. Schedules will be assigned based upon total scores accumulated during the Training Program.
Ocean Lifeguard Duties 1) Watch a designated section of the beach and water from an assigned station 2) Answer calls for help and perform rescue and resuscitation work 3) Warn bathers of beach and water hazards 4) Administer first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation 5) Use and maintain rescue equipment 6) Take charge of lost children 7) Answer questions of beach visitors 8) Advise regarding local beach and waterway related ordinances 9) Serve as a crewmember or ride-along on rescue boats and in lifeguard vehicles 10) Assist in salvage operations of small boats and their property 11) Complete and maintain activity records 12) Perform other related duties as required
